Empowerment Evaluation Keynote Speaker: Dr. David Fetterman

Empowerment Evaluation Keynote Speaker:  Dr. David Fetterman

The Librarians Association of the University of California, Berkeley invited Dr. David Fetterman to present their closing keynote about empowerment evaluation (an approach designed to help people accomplish their goals using evaluation feedback loops).

The talk was animated and informative.  He provided a brief overview about empowerment evaluation, including theories, concepts, steps, and case examples.  One of the case examples was drawn from his book Empowerment Evaluation in the Digital Villages:  Hewlett-Packard's $15 Million Race Toward Social Justice (Stanford University Press).  The book focuses on bridging the digital divide in communities of color and has attracted national attention.  Dr. Fetterman has participated in many radio interviews about the book.

Dr. Fetterman also evaluated Stanford University's entire library system.  The ethnographic part of the evaluation is discussed in his book Ethnography:  Step by Step.
